The Concept

Health Talks is an events series focusing on health, life sciences and entrepreneurship. It covers a variety of contemporary as well as future topics relevant to innovative health and life science entrepreneurship. We invite professionals and experts to share their knowledge and wisdom with everyone who’s interested in the topics.

Health Talks is co-organized by Aalto University, Health Design, Health Hub Tampere, HealthTurku, HiLIFE, Kuopio Health, OuluHealth, Terkko Health Hub, Upgraded – Health Startup Association of Finland, Laurea Entrepreneurship Society, Metropolia Entrepreneurship Society and Xes Helsinki.

Business Finland Services

This Health Talk covered what Business Finland can offer organizations and gathered experts for a virtual Q&A. Business Finland is the Finnish innovation funding, trade, investment and travel promotion organization. It is fully owned by the Finnish Government and employs 600 experts of 40 offices globally and in 20 regional offices around Finland.

How to raise funding?

This webinar provided insights from three different startups on how they have successfully raised funding. The event was organised as a roundtable discussion between three founders: Visa Sippola from Surgify, Harri Sihto from Sartar Therapeutics and Virpi Muhonen from Askel Healthcare. The roundtable discussion was moderated by Otto Olavinen – the CEO of Northbay and the main organiser of Health Design.

MDR: Developing and placing a medical device on the market

The upcoming Health Talks will tell you what you need to know about the Medical Device Regulation when developing and placing a medical device on the market. Cyber security for Health Startups

The first Health Talks event of the year 2021 intends to present to health startups an overview of cybersecurity risks they need to be aware of. Experts from leading cybersecurity firms in the connected health industry will explore the various cyber risks that exist for early stage companies, their software and connected devices. Speakers: Cybersecurity expert Dr. Saif Abed and Shriekanth Iyer from Irdeto. 

Artificial Intelligence and Health: Pros, Cons, Impacts?

Artificial intelligence-based applications can bring a number of benefits to the health sector: speed up clinical decision-making, lighten staff workloads, and bring efficiency and accuracy to diagnosis. But what ethical issues do we run into when a machine replaces a human? And how can we measure the effectiveness of AI-based applications and their benefits? These questions was tacked in this Health Talk with guest speakers: Antti Väänänen (CEO at Vireum), Janne Parkkila (CEO at Orkestr.io Oy) and Erkki Soini (CEO at ESiOR Oy).

Safe Design in Health Technology

This Health Talk is focused on minimizing risks associated with potential use-errors. Although regulatory requirements and guidance have been enhanced to minimize design induced errors, they are still too general to provide any real assistance on risk management, verification design, models or practices. These problems will be discussed during this Health Talk with Satu Peltonen from InXso.

Shareholder agreements

January 18th 2020

The first Health Talk of 2020 tackled the topic of Shareholder Agreements for health tech and life science startups. To introduce different viewpoints to the topic a selection of experts was gathered: Maria Storey and Juuso Turtiainen form Lexia attorneys shared insights about the importance of a good Shareholders Agreement and the most common pitfalls that startups step into. Kari Sinivuori from Uute Scientific covered the startups point of view on the matter, and Jussi Sainiemi from Voima Ventures shed light from the investors perspective.

Sustainable and Smart Health

December 9th 2019

With the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands we gathered interested people to learn about advanced technologies with improved environmental performance and sustainability in healthcare. The Netherlands have taken huge steps towards smarter healthcare solutions as well as the Nordics. Speakers for this Health Talk included Robert Metzke from Philips and two Finnish health startups – Resistomap and Megical.

International Regulations

November 18th 2019

The restricting factors in the marketing process are the ever so complex regulations monitoring healthtech markets. In this November Health Talk, experts from Lean Entries, Clinipower, Clinius, GE, Kasve and Planmed shared their know-how on getting Finnish healthtech products into the markets both in and out of Europe. The topics were processed in a panel discussion and the participants got to ask questions during the talks.

Healthy Food Innovations

October 24th 2019

The Health Talk of October dived into the growing field of foodtech & health. Speakers were Saarikko form Founder Institute Finland, Mika Kukkurainen from Nordic FoodTech VC as well as Miikka Kiiski and Kyösti Pennanen from crEATe – an innovation ecosystem orchestrated by VTT, Fazer and IBM. In addition to interesting presentations from three different experts, we spared some time for networking.
