Meet the Terkko team: Presenting our Communications Manager, Saana Lehtinen

What it’s like to steer the comms of a startup hub? Meet our Communications Manager, Saana Lehtinen!

1. Hello! Who are you?

Saana LehtinenI’m Saana, a marketing and communications professional born and raised in Helsinki, Finland. My educational background is in Media and Communications (The University of Helsinki) and Journalism (Tampere University), and due to my inquisitive mindset, my list of minor subjects includes everything from economics and political science to psychology, criminology and history. After two years of talking about finishing my Master’s thesis, this summer I’ll finally become a Master of Social Sciences. I’m still waiting for my degree certification, so it’s not a time for congratulations and celebrations just yet!

Before joining the Terkko team in 2020, I worked at a communications agency, and different types of NGOs and also occasionally added freelancer projects to my plate. Alongside my job at Terkko, I’m running my own communications business specializing in innovative companies working in health, wellness and technology.

2. What’s your role at Terkko?

I work as a Communications Manager. I’m responsible for building strategic guidelines for our comms, analyzing the results, sharing relevant news, events and programs with our community, and most importantly – spreading the word about milestones our startups have reached. As the digital marketing landscape is in constant motion, I would also mention learning new skills as one of my tasks.

3. What’s the best thing that has already happened this year? What are you most looking forward to in 2022?

Saana Lehtinen taking a picture with a phoneThe first half of the year has been full of big news from our startups: patents, funding, and acquisements, to mention a few. I’m very proud of our community, and it always warms my heart to see our startups succeed! This year, I’m looking forward to receiving more good news, and finally attending live events, e.g. get-togethers, with our team.

4. What was it like to join a startup hub for health and life sciences? What has been the most challenging thing about steering the comms of a startup hub?

For the 2020 version of me, it was quite a big jump. But a good one! Compared to more traditional organizations, everything is moving quickly in a startup environment. Working at Terkko requires me to generate fresh ideas from zero and the courage to test – and sometimes fail –  them. Luckily, I have a great and skilled team around me!
